W. VA. fighting a deer crashes

PARKERSBURG West Virginia’s Division of Natural Resources and the Department of transportation is working with insurance companies to reduce the number of deer/vehicle collision in the State.

The long-term goal of the collaboration with State Farm Mutual Auto insurance company is to identify the most costly strategy in reducing the number of vehicle accidents involving deer.

Jeff McCrady, a wildlife biologist with the DNR, said Deer accident in West Virginia.

“In West Virginia, You have the highest chances of hitting a deer than in most States,” he said. “A lot to do with the size of the population.”

According to a study by State Farm, one at 53 West Virginia driver will hit a deer in the next 12 months. West Virginia was ranked the most accident-prone country for the fifth consecutive year. On average, cost $ 3,171 in collision repair.
