GM is again the world’s largest car

Less than two years after emerging from bankruptcy, General Motors co. has regained the title the world’s largest car.

GM’s worldwide sales rose 7.6% 9 million vehicles in 2011. The Detroit plant was last held the top spot in 2007 before going beyond byToyota Motor Corp. the next year.

Chevrolet, GM’s flagship brand, a record by selling nearly 4.8 million vehicles. It’s more than what many auto company posted in sales last year, including Nissan and Honda.

“It was an achievement that GM has been able to turn the tide in the US and Asia, and they are doing very well considering the market appears only a few years ago that the company is in the real challenge the straights,” said John f. Hoffecker, an auto industry consultant with AlixPartners.

But selling cars at least always envious position, analysts said.
